Taz BD Run @ ECP

Wanted to resume the weekly LSD after AHM, and desperately needed to run after not running for 3 consecutive days due to rain and work :( Since I'm a DR (Directions Retard) and wouldn't be able to plan an elaborate route on my own (knowing that Teelee couldn't make it for the run and didn't have time to ask around for help about LSD routes), I decided to just run the DR-proof-route at ECP. I have ran this route before when Roentgen organised the LSD @ ECP in early Aug, it was a straight path all the way to the NSRCC, so I knew there is no way I could get lost :P

Gathering point: carpark B1
Gathering time: 0620hrs
Start time: 0630hrs

Was heartened when Roentgen, Divey, Daisiki, Shutehelup & Cfred expressed interest in the run (at least I know I don't have to run alone!! THANKS people!). Shutehelup & I arranged to meet up to take a cab there and he promptly came to pick me up at 0530hrs. We were early and reached ECP 10 mins before 6am and took our own sweet time getting ready & chatting while waiting for the rest to arrive. Quite surprised that ECP was already peppered with runners so early in the morning, some seem to be already up and running for a while. These people sure are early!

Roentgen arrived shortly after at about 0605hrs (he truly lived up to his words of always being at least 15mins early for his appointment! a man of punctuality! Impressive siah! hehe) While waiting I saw this really petite lady in red chop chop running really fast towards us and in close inspection realised that it was none other than Vivien Tang! The fastest lady in the recent Shape Run & AHM!! Wow! She was pounding away at pretty fast pace but we figured that must probably be her slow or relax pace ... I was just simply in awe ... Divey and Daisiki came shortly after and we began our run promptly at 0630hrs.

I felt "rusty" starting the run, legs were heavy and the joints were like un-oiled and was kinda worried that I couldn't run. Thankfully the pack ran at the 7:30min-8min pace. Had a relaxing time just breathing in the fresh air and feeling the serenity around us. About 20 mins into the run, Teelee & Charmane joined us. Cfred & Taz blend in shortly after (both have ran from their respective homes!!! Amazing!!) So all 9 of us slowly jogged in a pack. It helps that Cfred had ran a good 7-8km from his place and that he had to conserve energy for his MR 30km run tomorrow with Brokie et. al, Cfred kept to a very slow pace and able to run with us without charging ahead. In order to clock about 23-24km, Shut suggested running beyond NSRCC to the Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal. Teelee, Charmane & Taz decided to U-turn before reaching NSRCC thus leaving the rest of us prodding on to the ferry terminal. After u-turning and stopping at the first toilet where Daisiki stopped for cold drinks at the vending machine, we were yakking and giving way to one cyclist heading towards us only to find that he was none other than Aichai in his super chio shwee shwee cool bike! He was having his cycling training with his friends and decided to come by to say Hi (how nice! Tks Aichai!). We told him to join us at the end point later, so he went ahead to cycle back to Expo to pick up his car while the rest of us runners continued.

Cfred started to pick up speed and I, in my own world, just started to subconsciously pick up speed slightly. By the time I realise what I was doing, I have left my dear friends behind (So sorry people!! :( ) But well, at least I get to run with this young hunk for a good 8km in between our breaks. Wah first time in so many months after knowing cfred that I get to run with him for such a long distance!! (YIPPEEE!!! hahaha) Towards the end of the run, we met up with FBB who also ran from home, we took a good 5 minutes walk break before I continued on after hitting the MacDonalds. Cfred joined me shortly after and we continued all the way til the starting point where Teelee, Taz & Charmane had been back for more than 50 mins (sorry for the long wait people!)

I walked to the end of the road to let myself cool down, and also coz I could feel a big strain on my legs after the run, so needed the walk to rest my tired legs and to cool down. The rest of the folks returned shortly after. A very BIG THANK YOU to Roentgen for providing us all the much needed COLD 100+ after the run! Very considerate of Roentgen to buy so many cans of 100+ and keep them chilled in his cooler pack. THANKS so much!!!

Next up after the run was the birthday celebration for Taz, whose big day falls on next Tues. But since he would not be able to make it for the CBD run, Daisiki was kind enough to order a birthday cake and bring it to the run today. THANKS DAISIKI!!! :)
Really happy to see Taz di di smiling so happily for the celebration! Happy Birthday Tazzie!!!

After the BD celebration, Aichai, Teelee & Charmane left for their respective appointments, while the rest of us showered at the nearby toilet and headed to Parkway Parade for our breakfast. The poor guys had to walk there after such a hard run while we lucky gals took Roentgen's car. Thanks guys for being so chivalrous !!!

All in all a nice run on a nice Saturday morning. Thanks to all who turned up for the run, and to Aichai for coming to join us. Special thanks to the followingn friends:
  • Daisiki - For the birthday cake
  • Roentgen - For the barang tumpang service, the transport after the run to our makan place and most importantly the cold 100+!!!
Great run! We were already planning our next LSD the following Saturday. Next week, we have decided to join Taz in his quest to Sembawang. Hooray!! :) Another new route to run, something to look fwd to again! Yipppeee!!!

Afternote: Unfortunately now I am feeling a slight pain on my right leg when I walk, and go the stair case. Based on professional assessment, it could be due to overstraining the front muscles (quadriceps) of my right thigh... so I'm now icing the area and hopefully I'll be good as new by tomorrow morning. *cross fingers*

Hey Kickjazz xiao mei,

You did an amazing run today! 24 km is a significant distance, and you managed to power through most of the return leg! I suppose the hidden energy came from running with one of our resident 6/8p ?? :P

Now that you have begun exploring LSD distances above 21km, must remember to go extra slow, and give your body time to adapt to the stress of running longer and longer distances :)

This way, you will be able to enjoy running for many many more years to come! :D
