Charity Visit II & Dinner

Was stuck in a meeting for 2+ hours ... YAWNZZZZZZZZ ... was late for my meet-up with my friends to go to visit Handicaps Welfare Association (HWA).

We had a good session with HWA, understanding what this organisation does etc. Frankly, I feel like I've learnt a lot more in the past 2 evenings. I feel that there are so many wonderful people out there, who will sacrifice their time to volunteer at these charity organisations. In Special Olympics, I can sense the passion and enthusiasm in the Sports Manager, and the satisfaction that is written all over her face about the three members who may be shortlisted for the SCSM. In HWA, the mood is a little more sombre. I can sense the more urgent need of funds, to carry on with their programmes. What strikes me most is their programme called Dial-a-Ride. This programme helps transport the disabled to/fro work, hospital check-ups, to courses etc. Public transport isn't really a comparable alternative as frankly, SG's public transport infrastructure is still wanting. They are not exactly handicapped enabled. All these are heavily funded by HWA and for those who are unemployed or financially unsound, HWA may even charge them less etc.
Its visiting these organisations that make me feel proud that I'm finally doing something to contribute back to the society. That's why I realised I have to work hard to make sure I can contribute to this fund raising event and to help whichever organisation we choose to raise as much funds as possible. I also feel ashamed of myself, that whatever problems that I face, are indeed just "luxury" problems as compared to the others.

After the session, we went to the nearby food centre for dinner. The place looks ulu but it was abuzz with diners. I walked around and ordered a plate of kang kong cuttlefish beehoon. It tasted alright. To see how that dish looks like, just take a look at this picture.

Anyway, i'm beat. Just finished sending out the follow up emails etc. My eyes can hardly open. zzzZZZZ

I'm sure that regardless of which charity we choose in the end, the efforts will be well worth it! :)

I know that many of us are looking forward to putting our shoulders to the wheel, and getting the funds in for these worthy organisations! :D
