Mizuno Wave Run 2006

Finally did my first Mizuno Wave Run just now! Yipeee!!!!

Arranged to meet up with Taz this morning to do a slow warm up run before going for the Mizuno Wave Run. Woke up at 0530hrs (barely slept 4 hours coz I couldn't sleep) and left the house to meet up with Taz at 0615hrs at the bus stop outside my place. Timing was really ZHUN as we met up at the same time. Taz was all decked in Adidas, from the sunglasses (how he could run with the dark glasses early in the mrn when the light was dim is beyond me), to his red apparel to his shoes. Wah seh! all adidas, to a Mizuno event! Sure never give face hor ? waahhahahah

We chit chat along the way to Hougang MRT and took a train to Kovan. Met up with the sgrunners at the interchange. Teelee has planeted his TLV there at the interchange as early as 6am so as to secure a good spot for the sgrunners. I believe Roentgen & Sotong did the same. Such wonderful people, I could almost see the halos on top of their heads!! Thanks guys!!! :)

We were chit chatting away, having lots of fun before finally proceeding to the starting line. The crowd was just too huge and we were at the back of the starting line. I was really thirsty even before the run and so I went to take some water from the booth. About the same time the run started and the guy at the booth was like saying to us "Start already start already!!!", but we were like, aiya, nevermind lah, so crowded oso cannot run. We cool as cucumber hor ? :P

I started the with Aichai, Roentgen & Junie. Aichai did a very long cycling session yesterday (70Km!!!) and so had to take it easy today and so said that he would follow my pace. I have initially already spoken to Roentgen and know that he is doing a 60-65 mins timing, so I tot it would be best to run with Roentgen, learn from him the pace I shld be running at.

The run was difficult. Too many runners and with only one lane closed to traffic, it was way too packed for us to run. It was almost stuffy to run with the pack and we were running at like 8min pace I think. Still very early on in the race (was like I think 15mins ?) , we already see the speedmonsters running at the return lag (across the road). The first two runners were of the bluetooth origin, and i started looking out for teelee. Soon i saw this guy in grey chioning and upon closer inspection, I confirmed it was teelee and asked the gang whether we could shout across (was worried tat our shouts might distract him). We shouted our best wishes and cheered him on. I tot I saw him smile, but then again, this speedmonster is too fast, so I oso can't be sure .. haha

Thankfully for aichai who was with me all the while, I was able to maintain my pace and ran with him and Roentgen. Imagine Aichai doing his recovery run and running at this kind of pace (*sweat*) and Roentgen recovering from a flu, hasn't run for the past 3 weeks and just resumed running (*double sweat*) and they both were running comfortably at that pace, while I was having difficulty catching up! What is this man!??! I have to really thank Aichai and Roentgen for this run. Aichai, for running in front of me, and constantly checking that I'm still keeping up with him. Without his company I am sure i would have just given up and slowed down my pace. Roentgen for constantly updating me about the pace I'm going, to let me have a feel of what it is like to run at 7 min pace, 6 min pace and 5:30 min pace. This helps me to gauge at what pace I'm comfortable running at. Its great to have advisers like them, extremely patient and helpful to run with me during the run today! I'm sooooo blessed!!!! *smile broadly*

By the 7.5km, I was really tired and took a short break at the water point, as advised by Aichai ("walk through the water point" - so that I have time to catch my breath). I was sooooo not looking fwd to the end of the run as the slope there isn't something I'm looking fwd to. By the time i reached towards the end of the slope, I was completely breathless. That's when Nemo came to the rescue and paced me all the way back to the finishing line. I was really gonna give up if not for Nemo. Thanks brudder! I really appreciate your kind gesture!!!

I crossed the finishing line 1hr 1min 14s after the start. Thanks to teelee who helped us to collect our goodie bag, we chatted and took tons of pictures (the turnout for sgrunners is HUGE!!! So many people and so many unfamiliar faces! But I finally get to see ultraman in person and shook his hand! wow!!!). While hanging around, I also got to try on this new machine, something like elliptical trainer only that instead of moving forward in a circular motion, this one moves sideways, like rollerblading. It is targetted at the lower body, working the abductors (or adductors?), ham strings etc. It was fun heehee and Shut even took a pic of me on it! After loads of photos, chit chat, we finally adjorned to the nearby prata shop (the food court was just way toooo crowded) for our brunch.

After which, a few of us proceeded on to KFC for drinks and some munchies before calling it a day.

A good and fun run! Route is boring but ok, the great company makes everything so worth it. Thanks for the great company everyone! :)

I think you came in faster than 1:14. I was at the end point when you finished. Your time should be around 1:04 as you finished before my Mrs who finished in 1:06.

Well done.

Oh yah - so sorry I missed reading the 1min in between. Very good timing indeed. Next run you will go under 1hours for sure.
