With Sunday being the NBRR, we decided to have our last LSD (before the AHM) on Friday night, so that those NBRR runners can have a rest on Sat before their race.
The route (from SG River to Tg Rhu and back) which covers 21km was carefully planned by Roentgen. The meticulous way in which he went about the plan, even sending us a map on the route and suggested parking location, is simply commendable! Thanks Roentgen!
As I have missed Thursday's run due to work, and the past 2 days of accumulated stress at work, just made me longed for this run with the gang. Knowing that I might potentially be held up at work and possibly missed the run, Teelee and Roentgen were very very kind & considerate enough to push the start time of the run to 8pm. Thanks Teelee & Roentgen!!! *BOW* really appreciate it!!!
With the Friday night traffic, we were caught in the jam and only managed to reach the starting point at SG River at 8:30pm. The attendees tonight are : Roentgen, Teelee, Junie, Cosmic, Daisiki, Charmane, Shutehelup & yours truly. We started with a comfortable pace of 6:40min/km to 7+min/km. Many of us started the run feeling hungry and it was indeed a torture running past all the seafood restaurants and cafes along Clarke Quay & Esplanade!! While many were dining (or should i just say feasting) on chili crab, we could only joke about running off with their food :P Think the temptation of the food, hallucinating about the food calling out to us, just made all of us pick up pace so as to get away as far from the temptation as possible. We only managed to breathe a sigh of relief when we hit Marina Promenade where darkness & the countless number of couples sitting by the benches, grass patch greeted us . We kept to a comfortable pace trotting along and reached National Stadium, Tg Rhu & skirted along the waters in Tg Rhu. That took us about 1:40+.
There were several short walk breaks and everyone seemed comfortable and ready to push it slightly. With all the stress of the work week behind me, I just jogged along, lost in my own world (frankly, i wasn't thinking of anything), simply enjoying the tranquility of the evening, the still of the night (unfortunately the wind was pretty weak tonight) and enjoyed just running. I was also trying to increase my cadence without widening my stride, to see how I can handle that without causing any discomfort or pain to my shins. It sort of worked because I was told my pace was relatively faster but I wasn't feeling uncomfortable or breathless.
We reached the end point, 21km later, in 2:43hrs. A good run by my standards! I was able to push myself slightly more by increasing my pace slightly, without the super breathless feeling (which i absolutely hate!!!!). However, at the end of the run, I could feel my legs aching, which is something rare! Must have pushed myself slightly harder today. But I feel good after the run, especially after the non-activity for 2 straight days! Yes!
Shut brought us to this malay eatery along River Valley Road called Spize. Wow! The place was packed!!! We managed to get a seat and ordered their limejuice, which was served in this huge glass. I ordered their Tom Yam chicken soup with beehoon. The tom yam was surprisingly pretty good and I cleaned out the dish. I saw that their milo dinosaur was really impressive, served with those same huge glasses, with generous amount of milo powder packed on top of the drink!!! And it only costs $2! I told myself I just had to have one (darn the diet! :P), and Roentgen & I each ordered one after finishing our dinner. I have to say I enjoyed the milo dinosaur tremendously!! It was YUMMILICIOUS!!! Real potent stuff! I enjoyed it thoroughly and was thinking this is a great place to hang out past midnite! With great food (their prata, murtabak looked very yummy too!!!) to boot!
After stuffing our stomach, we headed home with kind teelee giving Cosmic a ride all the way back to the east, before sending Shut, Junie, Charmane & myself back to our place. Special thanks to Shut for sending me all the way back to my doorstep. Really thanks a lot Shut & Teelee for your consideration and ensuring that I reach home safely. Cheers!
:)
A great run to loosen me up, replace the unhappy events this week with the happier encounters and company of the sgrunners. Thanks for the great company gals & guys! Once again, THANKS to ROENTGEN for organizing this run, and picking a few of us up at the CBD run start point. And to TEELEE for providing your reliable transport service home! :)
To more great runs!!

a 2:43 for 21km in a training run setting is commendable by any standards... keep up with the cadence thingy, and longish runs after AHM, and you will do very fine at SCSM :)
Cheers!
Hey KJ! Fully agree with you that this was a much needed long run (aka mind break / autopilot / screensaver session) after a particularly stressful week for all of us :)
Well done on your pace during the run! It was really much faster than normal, and even the great Teelee had some difficulty catching up with you and the rest in the front pack! :P
Take it easy for the rest of the week, and I am sure you will enjoy AHM tremendously. Well done again on completing your "first half marathon" in great form! :D
hey guys, tks for the encouragement!
running with friends is much easier than running alone. AHM would be running alone, let's just hope i have the stamina and discipline to complete.
:)
eh, DR ... SCSM i going half leh, not full :P
